General Information

The PSITTACUS range of products is the result of the zootechnical research programs that we have carried out since 1998 in our own breeding center, in our research facilities and in collaborating breeding centers.
Our food is continuously developed and improved thanks to this systematic interaction between the two main areas of the company: psittaculture and nutrition.

Characteristics

PSITTACUS is a range of complete foods specifically for psittacine birds.
These foods have been designed so that parrots find in them all the nutrients, vitamins and minerals necessary to be able to develop a healthy and normal life.
Our products are formulated following the basic and priority criteria that an adult parrot must be able to live for many years and that the chicks must grow very quickly in order to guarantee their correct development and health.

Advantages of PSITTACUS

The excellent nutritional quality and palatability of our products are the best 'letters of introduction' that we can offer. Parrots that reject foods from many other brands, eat foods from the PSITTACUS range without any transition. Our foods guarantee excellent plumage quality, greater resistance to diseases, improve the quality of faeces and ensure adequate body condition. Our hand feeding formulas allow the chicks to express their growth capacity to the maximum and guarantee their health.

Our proposal

Our proposal is based on giving absolute prominence to complete foods in the diet of our birds. Complete foods are formulated with the aim of covering all the nutritional requirements of each species, according to their age and physiological stage. This is what will allow the birds to remain healthy without the need for "preventive" pharmacological treatments and to express their full reproductive potential (in the case of adult specimens) and their full growth potential (in the case of chicks).

The various PSITTACUS extruded formulas have been designed for optimal nutrition of adult parrots. These are complete foods in which each portion contains all the necessary nutrients for the birds for which they are intended. The range includes breeding and maintenance foods for very different types of parrot, according to their also different needs. The nutritional requirements of an African grey parrot have little to do with those of, for example, a lorikeet or a budgerigar. It is important to select the most suitable diet for each species.

The various hand feeding formulas in the PSITTACUS range have been designed for hand-rearing psittacine chicks. They allow them to achieve the high growth rates that they require for their optimum well-being. They are classified into three main categories: crop milks (for newborns), neonatal formulas (until feathering) and continuation formulas (until emancipation). In addition, for each category, different formulas are offered depending on the food specialization of the species to be reared.
PSITTACUS eggfoods are designed to supplement the diet of breeding pairs during the chick-feeding stage; especially small-sized species. Their contribution facilitates and stimulates the chick-feeding task of the parentals. The dry eggfoods have been designed to be mixed with hydrated Microspheres or some other food that provides them with moisture. Soft eggfoods can be fed directly to the birds.
MICROSPHERES are extruded foods that have been designed to be hydrated without the pellet losing its shape. They are especially indicated to provide the necessary humidity to dry eggfoods. Having been formulated as a complete food, they have no consumption restrictions and at a nutritional level they complement perfectly with dry eggfoods.
The products included in this category allow to cover the needs that complete food cannot or should not try to cover. This is for example the case of flint sand or calcium grit. An extruded food cannot contain sand and must only meet the usual calcium needs (not the highest specific needs at the time of egg laying). In order for the birds to be able to self-regulate and cover their real needs more precisely, it is essential that they have Silex Grit and Calcium Grit permanently at their disposal. Other supplements have been designed to complement diets based on mixtures of seeds (already inherently deficient in trace elements, minerals and vitamins) and to facilitate the preparation of sprouts.
Soft tubes for hand feeding and corn cob bedding are tools that facilitate the work of keepers and improve the well-being of the birds. It is important to select the most suitable soft tube model based on the size of the chick to be fed.
